If your house is anything like mine…my wife was done Christmas shopping in October and I’m 3 weeks out from Christmas and haven’t started. But, I have Amazon Prime, I got this…now if only they could gift wrap??? I will show you some quality, last minute gift ideas so you can win the cool parent award on Christmas morning.
The Top 7 Christmas Gifts for Soccer Players in 2017
- Soccer Ball. Pretty Obvious-but there are so many, and many of them wear out after a few weeks of heavy play. Here is a size 4 of a ball that will last the whole year in 2018, provided your kid doesn’t lose it-which brings me to another topic about an app and a gps chip for soccer balls-but that’s a discussion for 2018.
or if you are looking to step your game up a little bit, this is a really nice size 5:
I’m not all about the Nike Gear…but in my opinion they are making the best soccer balls right now.
2. New Boots. Every kid has to have a new pair of boots for Christmas. But which ones to get and where do you draw the line when they can go up to $300. Let me be the first one to say it, so you can say you heard it here first-there will be a revolution back toward black boots in 2018. All the colors and built in soccer and light weight cleats…they are great to look but, but not functional and I think there is a direct correlation with kids getting Severs and Knee issues with the lack of support in the soles of these modern shoes. These are the best bang for your buck and as a parent, you buy one size and they will last you…wait for it…All Year!! But How? Oh, Adidas Copa Mundials stretch and mold to your foot. I wore these when I was 10 years old and I still wear them today. This is the best boot ever or will ever be made.
3. Soccer Tennis Nets.
“Honey, where are the kids?”
“Oh, they’ve been playing soccer Tennis in the backyard for the past 2 hours. I read a book, got a nap, and even started dinner, great present for the kids.”
Super fun game, spent hours playing as a kid. Typical rules are you get 3 touches, 1 bounce on every ball over the net, score on every play. Winner takes serve. Great way to improve touch on the ball, get exercise, all while in a fun environment. This brand isn’t the cheapest or the most expensive, but they have a quality, solid product that will last.
4. FIFA 2018.
You just won Christmas.
This is the part where your partner rolls her eyes at you, because the kids have left the Christmas Tree on Christmas morning, along with all of the presents from Grandma and Grandpa to start playing FIFA.
This is the part where you smile, kick up the feet and pour an extra cup of coffee. “Take that Grandpa!”
5. A Goal.
Now, be careful because this one comes with some collateral damage. I’m talking shrubbery, landscaping, low voltage lighting, windows, neighbors windows, torn up yard, and I haven’t even gotten to the arguments that will ensue because of having it.
However, when I was a boy, I always had a goal. And every night around 5pm, my backyard turned into Wembley stadium as 10-15 kids from the neighborhood would transcend on my backyard for a match before dinner. This was before we implemented flood lights so we could terrorize the entire street until 10pm at night. My Dad wasn’t popular. But us kids had a blast.
Here’s a brand I’ve used for years-literally I’ve had this goal for 7 years and the bag the goal comes in wears out before the actual goal. Goal Figure?
There are other knockoffs and brands out there…like the Skilz Goal…which are decent. But this one is for real, it can take a pounding. I still hit 60 MPH shots at the net and it holds up. I stand by it.
I recommend getting the size I recommended (7×14) as it is the same size as a youth goal, but still big enough for when the kids get older.
This goal pops up in about 3 minutes and gets put away in 3 minutes. It’s as easy as setting up a camping tent, same philosophy in design.
6. Water Bottle. While this isn’t usually the fan favorite, if you get the kids some stickers and they can deck it out on their own it can turn into a fun experience. I’ve had this brand water bottle for about 4 years. It’s been dropped, dinged, run over, re run over, left in the sun, put in the dishwasher, held every beverage known to man and still works brand new. You pay a little more upfront, but it keeps your water cold all day (even in the hot sun) and it lasts. Very durable.
7. Get them My Book!
This is a great read for kids aged 8-14. Many parents report that their kids finished the book cover to cover in less than 2 days. This was an Amazon BestSeller and had some fantastic Amazon reviews. This is the perfect story about a young boy, who is not the best player in his village…but he sets to a training regimen, gets a little break, and ends up going on an amazing journey. A must read for a young, aspiring soccer player with bigger dreams.
In full transparency, I receive a small commission from Amazon for recommending products to be sold. It’s only a few bucks and doesn’t impact your purchase price and it goes to support the site and continue to bring you decent content. Every piece of equipment recommended is a product I’ve used and have approved as quality… and I have very high standards when it comes to products I purchase. I work with kids for a living, so I know what they are into and I also know who is making the quality products. I hope this helps you guys out as you close out the Christmas Shopping.
