3 Touch and 2 Touch Partner Juggling Progressions
Last week we were working on Ground Juggling, an advanced way to become better at juggling, a good way to teach kids what part of the foot to use, and also an exercise to do in between games at a tournament or on those hot summer days.
This week we are progressing into 3 touch and 2 touch partner juggling. This is a great little warm-up and training to do with a partner as it works on your first touch, weight of touch, weight of passing, control, and movement of your body.
Start with a 3 touch juggling exercise. You play the ball to your partner, they have 3 touches to control it, and play it back to you. They can do it in 1 or 2, but 3 is the max number. The first touch should control the ball into the air, the second touch is a prep touch to get ready for a return pass, and the final touch is the return pass. You can play games this way by:
- Seeing how many consecutive juggles you can get as a team (ie, continuous juggles)
- The player that drops the ball is penalized by the other player getting a point. Ie, you and I are juggling, you drop the ball, I get a point.
Our next step is just to speed the game up a bit and go with a 2 touch juggling. In this exercise your control touch and your prep touch are one in the same. You must both control the pass with your first touch and then ask a little more out of that first touch to prepare the ball so you can comfortably have a return pass.
Use the same game from above to get the most enjoyment from the exercise once you have had some time to warm-up.
Get out there and train.
